Employee wellbeing is at the heart of everything.

Wellbeing is everything

Your wellbeing couldn’t be more important. We treat this as a moral obligation, but it’s so much more than that. A healthy, content and resilient workforce is a productive one – and when you serve the people of Essex in the wide variety of life-enhancing ways that we do, this is essential.

“Our definition of wellbeing is a sense of organisation, team and individual health, contentment and resilience, in which each individual employee is supported to make informed choices and engage in positive wellbeing behaviours in order to thrive at Essex County Council and beyond.” – Dr Sabrina Robinson

Our approach to wellbeing

We work closely with all of our colleagues to provide strong and sophisticated wellbeing support based on their needs. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but our new strategy will take us to a whole new place for mental, physical, social and financial wellbeing.

Join us and you’ll find these are just some of the ways we’ll support your wellbeing:

Employee Assistance Programme

Our Employee Assistance Helpline offers you and your family members access to information, advice and telephone counselling on a variety of personal and workplace issues. Funded by Essex County Council and provided by an external company, the helpline sits side-by-side with our occupational health service offering.

Wellbeing Events and Sessions

Run by internal and external experts, these events are the opportunity to take time out of your day and focus on your wellbeing. From yoga to mindfulness, exercise or flower arranging – we try to keep it as varied as possible so everyone gets the chance to join in.

Mental Health First Aiders

Over the last few years we’ve trained an ever growing number of colleagues – from all areas of the organisation – to become Mental Health First Aiders. Our trained colleagues are there to offer you immediate support and signpost you to specialist services if it’s needed. Of course, anything you discuss with our Mental Health First Aiders remains confidential.

Wellbeing Focused Training

Learning at Essex County Council is not a one-off event. It’s an ongoing journey. We offer both formal and informal wellbeing-based training. This includes online ‘on demand’ training and classroom sessions, and a strong wellbeing focus at our learning events.
